My Trip!
This website was created to raise awareness and funds for
a volunteering trip to Cambodia which I went on July/August 2013. Now I have updated it with some pictures from my inspiring trip and details of where I spent the extra money raised!
Thank you to everyone for supporting me on this challenge!
Here's some information about the trip:
Through the university I have joined a group called Reach Out Volunteers, with this group next July I will be heading off to Siem Reap, Cambodia; while I am there I will be working with a team of people to assist the poorest and most under-privileged people in the third world.
For the first 2 weeks there I will be working with a team that will be working on projects involving;
• Building homes for homeless families and widows
• Building crèches for orphans
• Teaching children in the villages
• Installing fresh water supplies
• Improving village sanitation
The work is hard and it is hands on. It is done side by side with the local villagers.
During my final week I will be moving on to Phnom Penh, Cambodia where I will be caring for the rescued elephants that have been subject to neglect through the logging industry or tourism. This involves hands on work with the elephants, feeding and bathing them, as well as planting and harvesting food to maintain the sustainability of the refuge.
To pay for the trip which includes the materials, equipment and supplies necessary to complete these projects, I am going to be running various fundraising events both at home in Thurrock, Essex and at The University of Warwick. (Please note I am only fundraising for the volunteering trip itself, I am paying for my own flights).
